Vintage Nils Johan Silverplate Sugar Tongs Nilsson Johan vintage silverplate sugar tongs crafted in Sweden. Elegantly designed small tongs for serving sugar during formal tea and coffee service. Also known as sugar nippers or tea tongs the versatile tongs were also used for pickles, small candy, bonbons, hors d'ouevres, cocktail garnishes, small pastries, and fruit. A staple of refined dining etiquette in Victorian and Edwardian eras for serving shared items. Fashioned in the Art Nouveau style with detailed patterned handles of flowers and scrolls. Pattern N1J4 production dates early to mid 20th century around 1900 to 1940 and now discontinued.
