Vintage Mexican Tonala Pottery Elephant Figurine Hand Painted 1980s

Authentic Mexican Tonalá pottery elephant figurine, hand-formed and hand-painted in the traditional Tonalá style. This piece features a soft gray ground with earthy brown accents and muted blue floral and butterfly motifs, finished with a glossy glaze typical of Tonalá ceramics. The organic shape and folk-art detailing give it a warm, expressive presence. Produced in the 1980s, this elephant reflects the enduring Tonalá pottery tradition, known for its hand-crafted forms, natural pigments, and decorative motifs inspired by flora, fauna, and regional symbolism. Pieces from this era balance traditional techniques with slightly more contemporary color palettes while remaining deeply rooted in folk craftsmanship. Measures approximately 3.5 tall x 5.75 long x 2.25 deep. No chips, cracks, or crazing observed. Glaze variations and tonal differences are consistent with hand-made Tonalá pottery. Please view all photos closely, as they are the best descriptors of condition and surface detail. A wonderful addition to a collection of Mexican folk art, Tonalá pottery, or animal figurines, and an easy accent for shelves, bookcases, or curated decor displays. Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love. — Nate Berkus, The Things That Matter
