Description
Orders close on March 20, 2026.

Since many people have difficulty rooting cuttings, we will sell seedlings that appear to be male and female plants as a pair starting around May.

Immediate purchase is welcome.

In northern Iwate Prefecture, cuttings are taken from late March to early April.
Please take cuttings by early April at the latest, before the cherry blossoms bloom.

Although it is cold at this time of year, the cuttings will root if kept indoors.

If warm days continue, it will become difficult to collect dormant branches.

By mid-March, we will be busy with wild vegetables such as fukinoto, so we will not be collecting them.

These are the same branches that cats love, and the same material used for Matatabi tea.
The only difference is how they are cut. The base of the branch is cut at a sharper angle.

We will collect the branches for each order.
Depending on the weather, it may take 3 to 4 days.
We do not hold items.
Please understand.
We take time to ensure we ship fresh, high-quality items.

It is said that Matatabi leaves contain compounds that repel mosquitoes.
Why not create a mosquito-repellent green curtain?

How to propagate Matatabi:

It can be propagated by cuttings.

There are many reports of new shoots being attacked by cats during the cutting process. Please protect them well and grow your seedlings.

Since the leaf stalks are not attached, the branches we send may all be male plants, as we cannot distinguish between male and female.

Cutting medium:
Please use cutting medium such as Akadama soil, Kanuma soil, peat moss, or perlite for cuttings.

Planting:
Soil rich in organic matter, with good water retention and aeration, is suitable. It can be planted in sunny areas or in the shade of trees.
Avoid dry areas.
Seedlings with poor rooting or stunted growth should be nurtured in pots for about six months before transplanting.

Delivery by Kuroneko Yamato:
This is an estimated delivery time for shipments sent on the last delivery of the day. Excludes remote islands.

Deliveries to areas around Kanto and Sapporo are expected to arrive by the morning of the next day.

Deliveries to the Kinki, Kyushu, Shikoku, San'in, and San'yo regions are expected to arrive the day after tomorrow or later.
