Description
Kyushu Mingei Furniture is one of Japan's leading furniture brands. As the name suggests, its roots are in the Kyushu region, producing furniture that is both substantial and warm.
It strongly reflects the spirit of the Mingei Movement (a movement that finds beauty in everyday crafts), which began in the 1950s, and has the following characteristics:
1. Commitment to Materials (Use of Cherry Wood)
The most distinctive feature of Kyushu Mingei Furniture is the use of **Mizumezakura (water-eyed cherry)** as the primary material. Mizumezakura is an extremely hard and difficult-to-work wood, but it is a high-quality wood that develops a deep luster the more it is polished. By using this robust material, the furniture possesses durability that allows it to be used for generations.
2. Traditional Techniques by Craftsmen
The furniture is finished by the skilled hands of craftsmen using techniques such as kumite (joinery) and settsugou (joining), which minimize the use of nails. Unlike mass-produced items made by machines, the human touch applied to every detail imbues the furniture with a unique waver and strength.
3. Deep Luster of Kabairo (Chestnut Brown)
A characteristic feature is the deep reddish-brown lacquer finish, also known as Kyushu Mingei Color. Through repeated applications of lacquer, the color deepens with use, increasing its antique-like character.
4. Fusion of Designs
Many designs feature a fusion of traditional Japanese aesthetics with the functional beauty of Western styles, such as the English Windsor style. This timeless beauty seamlessly blends not only with Japanese-style rooms but also with modern Western spaces.
[Supplement]
Unfortunately, the manufacturer of Kyushu Mingei Furniture has since disbanded. However, due to its high quality, it remains very popular in the used market and as vintage furniture. Furthermore, its techniques and spirit have been passed down to other folk craft furniture workshops, and it continues to be cherished as an important brand in Japanese interior culture.

I have cherished this item and have a strong attachment to it, but I will pass it on to someone who will use it. As it has been stored at home, there are some minor scuffs and dents, but I believe it is in beautiful condition. Please purchase only if you understand that there may be oversights.
