Description
Thank you for viewing this item.
This is a Menka (Buddha's palm seed) seal, believed to have been made around the Qing Dynasty in China.
The material is a traditional one using the rōtō (wax head) part of the Buddha's palm seed from Myanmar (formerly Burma), characterized by its hardness and beautiful aging.
The seal inscription is a single character, 寿 (ju/kotobuki - longevity), in seal script within an oval shape. It is an auspicious seal symbolizing longevity, good fortune, and warding off evil spirits.
The carved portion features intricate relief carvings of buildings, landscapes, and plants (motifs like leaves and vines), with surrounding ornamentation.
