This is a cotton half-collar (han-eri) that can be used on either side, featuring a vibrant red with a white asanoha (hemp leaf) pattern on one side and blue with a white samekomon (shark skin pattern) on the other.
These are traditional auspicious patterns; the asanoha symbolizes wishes for healthy growth, and the samekomon is said to ward off evil.
The fabric, which was stored at home, has been cut with pinking shears.
